Winston Churchill takes up his appointment as Home Secretary

Churchill held the post in Herbert Asquith’s Liberal government until October 1911 when he became First Lord of the Admiralty. During his time at the Home Office, Churchill gained controversy for his handling of the so-called siege of Sidney Street and the Tonypandy mining dispute.
