Happy birthday to Gideon Amos, Liberal Democrat MP for Taunton and Wellington
Born in Somerset, he was educated at Wells Cathedral School and Oxford Brookes University. A qualified architect, Amos served as a director of Planning Aid in 1997, while in 2000 he was appointed the chief executive of the Town and Country Planning Association. He later served as a council member at the National Infrastructure Planning Association. From 1992-96 he was a Liberal Democrat member of Oxford City Council. He stood for Taunton Deane in the 2017 and 2019 general elections, finishing second to the Conservatives on both occasions but improving the Liberal Democrat vote in the process. Selected to fight the newly created constituency of Taunton and Wellington, he gained the seat with a majority of 11,939. He speaks for the party on Housing and Communities.
