The Liberals hold the Ilkeston by-election

The result of the by-election in the Ilkeston Division of Derbyshire is announced at Ilkeston Town Hall by the High Sheriff of Derbyshire, Mr Arkwright. The election, occasioned by the death of the sitting Liberal MP, Thomas Watson, was won with an increased majority by Dr. Sir Balthazar Walter Foster, Liberal MP for Chester from 1885 to 1886 and a Professor of Medicine. He held the seat until 1910 when he stood down and went to the House of Lords as the 1st Baron Ilkeston.
