Happy birthday to Brian Matthew, Liberal Democrat MP for Melksham & Devizes

Educated at the University of East Anglia and Cranfield and Reading Universities, Matthew worked for several aid organisations including Water Aid in Tanzania. He was a Councillor on Wiltshire Council from 2017. Before success in 2024, Matthew made several attempts to get into parliament, standing in North Somerset in 2010 and North Wiltshire in 2015, 2017 and 2019. With boundary changes, Matthew was selected for the new constituency of Melksham & Devizes and in the election he won the seat with a majority of 2,401 defeating former Education Secretary Michelle Donelan who had previously been MP for Chippenham. In the Commons, Matthew sits on the International Development Select Committee.
