Birth of Robert Collier, 2nd Baron Monkswell

Lord Monkswell entered the House of Lords on the death of his father in 1886 and later served in the Liberal administrations of W E Gladstone and Lord Rosebery as a government whip from 1892-95. He was also a member and Chairman of the London County Council for the Progressive Party (as the Liberals on the LCC were known). Robert Collier was the brother of the Pre-Raphaelite artist John Collier.
