Seaborne Davies holds Lloyd George’s old seat of Caernarvon Boroughs

The by-election was caused by Lloyd George’s elevation to the House of Lords. The election was covered by the wartime truce, which meant that the party holding the seat was not opposed by other Westminster parties and so Davies’ only opponent was Professor J E Daniel of Plaid Cymru whom he easily defeated. However Davies only served as an MP for a few weeks as the seat was gained by the Conservatives at the 1945 general election in July.
