Sir William Edge wins the Bosworth by-election for the Liberals

The election was caused by the resignation of the Tory MP Robert Gee. Gee had been absent from parliamentary duties for a year before the election having emigrated to Australia with no intention of returning. The Conservatives were beaten into third place and Edge who had sat as Liberal MP for Bolton 1916-23 held the seat as a Liberal and Liberal National until he retired in 1945.
