Death of George Robinson 1st Marquess Ripon, a key figure in Liberal politics for over 50 years

Ripon led a long and varied career, serving in every Liberal cabinet between 1861 and 1908. Roles included stints as Lord John Russell’s Secretary for War, Gladstone’s President of the Council & First Lord of the Admiralty, Rosebery’s Secretary for the Colonies, Campbell-Bannerman’s Lord Privy Seal, and leader of the House of Lords under Asquith.
