Birth of Walter Russell Rea, 1st Baron Rea, Liberal MP for Scarborough 1906-18, Bradford North 1923-24 and Dewsbury 1931-35

He served as a junior whip under H.H. Asquith from 1915-16 and was again a government whip in 1931-32 in the National Government. He was Liberal Chief Whip in the House of Commons from 1931-35 and became a peer in 1937. His son, Philip, later became Liberal leader in the House of Lords and party president.
