The Times on the Liberal SDP seat negotiations

The Times reports that leading members of the SDP have concluded that they are getting the worst bargain so far in the sharing of Parliamentary seats with the Liberals. The ongoing strains between the two parties on this issue damaged the public view of the Alliance as a new collaborative departure in British politics and, though a deal was finally hammered out, it is generally held that the row over seat distribution harmed Alliance performance as the 1983 general election approached.
