David Owen Evans, the Samuelite Liberal candidate, wins the Cardiganshire by-election in a three cornered fight with the Conservatives and Labour. Evans has a 4571 (16.6%) majority over the Conservatives. The by-election showed that the Liberals, even after their recent split, could still win in a three cornered fight.
