Nigel Jones won the long term target seat of Cheltenham at the 1992 general election and held it until standing down in 2005, when he was made a peer. During his time as an MP, Nigel Jones spoke for the party on a range of subjects including local government, consumer affairs and international development. He was succeeded by his Liberal Democrat colleague Martin Horwood who held the seat until the Conservatives finally recaptured it in 2015.
