Birth of Roderic Bowen, Liberal MP for Cardiganshire 1945-66

Roderic Bowen was a would be leader of the Liberal Party but failed to run after Clement Davies stood down in 1956 preferring to give priority to his legal career. He was Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons from 1964-66 and it is thought that his acceptance of this post lead to his unexpected defeat in the 1966 general election.
