Acland served as Liberal MP for Richmond 1906-10, Camborne 1910-22, Tiverton 1923-24 and North Cornwall 1932-39. He held several posts in the Asquith Liberal government as Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Financial Secretary to the Treasury.
